Sunday Morning Bible Study: Living with Change

 

As we journey through life, we are confronted with many changes. We experience change at work, in our homes, in the church, in the community, and in our nation.

 

But people react to change differently. Social attitudes, religious beliefs, and culture all affect our attitude and response to change.

 

Our new Sunday morning Bible study beginning September 12 will deal with the whole issue of change and how we can respond to change in a healthy and a biblical way.

 

As we study and discuss this topic over the course of four weeks, Pastor Sauer will lead the 8:00 sessions (for the “Early Bird” group), and John Wagenbach will lead the 9:00 sessions. We invite you to join us as we open up the Bible and deal with an issue that affects all of us.

 

You are also welcome to pick up your cup of coffee in the Gathering Place before joining us for study in the Alpha Room.

 

Something New - a Blog Study!

 

This study will be moderated by Pastor Zelt who will write the first posting on a passage of Scripture, then those who have joined this group can begin posting their insights and responding to others comments.

 

It will not be open to the general public in order to avoid general postings that would need to be edited, so in order to join, email your request to participate to kwoodrow@popfremont.org to get the password and directions. 

 

There is one  requirement:  We don’t want to be faceless voices so you have to commit to meeting in person with the group once per month for the months of October (the 17th ) & November (the 21st )in order to   connect to each other better. 

 

The first topic:  The way God worked in The Days of Elijah (1 Kings 17-19).  The brief, but amazing story of his life gives us some pretty amazing insights into our lives and the ways God works!

 

Basics - A Foundational Study of the Christian Faith

 

For those just starting out on their spiritual journey or those who want a review.  This five week study will be offered on Monday evenings from 7:00-8:30 starting September 13 (child care is provided). No need to sign-up - just come!

 

Second Step

 

Join us on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Alpha Room, beginning October 25. This class is the follow up study to Basics. If you started with Basics and want to continue, or if you have been part of Basics before, we invite you to join us for this study. Childcare is provided.

 

Some of the topics we will look at are: The two basic teachings of God - Law and Gospel, The Law of God, The Holy Spirit and His work in our lives, Baptism, The Lord’s Supper. If you have any questions, you may contact the church office or Pastor Zelt at tzelt@popfremont.org.

 

New Member Orientation

 

New Member Orientation . . . For those who have completed Basics & Second Step and would like to become a member of Prince of Peace, or if you would like to transfer your membership from another LCMS church, this one-evening class is for you!

 

Walk Through the Bible

 

Often the Bible is a bit confusing.  After all, it spans thousands of years with strange names and places, speaking (at times) in ways quite foreign to our language.  Yet, believe it or not, it’s not that complicated. 

 

This eight week study helps put the pieces together and then helps you initiate a personal Bible use program.  Pastor Zelt leads this study which will be on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m. for eight weeks beginning September 8th.  We will meet in Veritas. 

 

Wednesday Mornings: Deep, Difficult and God-pleasing Prayer

As the disciples watched Jesus pray, they realized that they needed him to teach them how to pray. 

 

As we see Jesus (and others throughout the scripture) in prayer, we see great examples of times of prayer that are very deep and personal and often very difficult. 

 

We meet in the Alpha Room from 10:30 to 11:30 every Wednesday.  The study is led by Pastor Zelt.

 

GriefShare on Tuesday Evenings

 

“Your Journey From Mourning to Joy” describes the journey you will embark on through GriefShare. Each 90-minute session begins with instruction via DVD by mental health professionals and people who have lost loved ones. The second half of the session is set aside for sharing among the participants related to the topic for that session.

 

Sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings, 7:00 – 8:30, beginning October 19. The complete series runs for 14 sessions, including a special session related to celebrating the Christmas season without the presence of your loved one.
