How much does your faith affect you? Some might wonder how smart it is to allow something you have never seen be so central to your life. Others might think of people who believe the most outrageous things and as a result do things no sensible person would. Radicals might come to mind – even suicidal terrorists or cult groups that go down a path of extreme faith. How radical of a faith should we have? Is there such a thing as a “safe” faith? In August we will be walking through Hebrews 11, sometimes called the “Hall of Faith” chapter to see . . .
Faith: Well-Grounded or Fairy Tale? (August 1) Hebrews 1:1 describes faith as based on hopes and on what you cannot see, so how well-grounded can it be? When does faith become stupid? And what kind of faith does God want us to have? We will be installing our VBS volunteers at the 10:30 service too.
Faith-filled Living (August 8) Taking examples from Hebrews 11, we see the types of things that faith moved God’s people to do, all to lead us to see what God might be calling us to do as we step out in faith.
Faith-Filled Living (part II) (August 15) Continuing in Hebrews 11, we see amazing examples of those who lived out their faith. We will be seeing the heroes of faith. Dan Dueck will be installed as our new principal this morning and there will be a reception in the Gathering Place to welcome the Dueck family!
The Blessings of Faith (August 22) Hebrews 11 says that God gives things to those who trust him. He even lists what they are, so that we understand better how good God is and trust him even more. Practical (and Real)
Humility is taught by Jesus in Luke 14:7-14. (August 29) What he teaches is good for friendship, for work, and essential toward God. We will have the commissioning of Katie Dodd (one of our 1st grade teachers), the installation of Erin Dueck and Joshua Trapp (one of our new 2nd grade teachers and our technology teacher respectively), and the re-dedication of the rest of our school faculty as part of worship.
Coming in September: Dr. Mitri Raheb, the pastor of Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, Palestine, will be speaking at our worship on September 19. He is the recipient of the Aachen Peace Award, actively engaged in bringing Christ and his peace to the West Bank.
There will also be a luncheon and Sunday Forum following the service for a chance to interact with Dr. Raheb.
The launch of our fall focus in God’s Word for all of us. It kicks off September 12, with testimonies, tools for easily accessing God’s Word, and a new series in Kids Kount.
